No wonder the Academy Awards call it "Best Picture"

Going to the movies recently, I couldn't help but notice the transition to digital projectors, at least for the bigger theaters displaying the newest movie. This is an article from 2003 outlining the start of the transition and the advantages digital projectors can provide

This more recent article (Feb 19, 2009) outlines Sony's involvement and push to catch up to Texas Instruments in digital projection technology.

An Intro to Douglas Gordon

The artist I have chosen to write an exposé about (Douglas Gordon) is, well, a bit on the quirky side... even for an artist.

I chose him partly because of his fascination with Hitchcock (mirroring my own), partnered with the shock value he brings to his seemingly larger than life installations

Here is a 30 second clip of Gordon's re-creation of Hitchcock's famous shower scene. By slowing it down, maybe Gordon is trying to give added prudence to the scene that took 7 days and 70 angles to shoot. The whole original movie is 109 minutes long in which he lengthened to 24 hours.

Another related work by Gordon includes a Zinedine Zidane (French soccer legend) showcase in which the camera was solely fixed, from multiple angles, upon Zidane for the entire game. Known for his intense focus, Zidane is highlighted from all angles in this 90 minute video. Talk about self-consciousness.
